The Ecology Department covers a broad range of research topics. Within and across each area of research, a range of project activities are undertaken varying in scale from large EU projects, through the NERC Theme Action Plans, Government Department commissions and commercial contracts, to a range of individual PhD studentships.

The key drivers of research at SANS are the responses of individuals and communities to environmental changes caused by human activities and changing climate. Their work is cast both in theoretical and applied contexts, attempting to understand ecosystem processes and their sensitivities.

The work at SAMS work covers all marine ecosystems from the coast to the deep ocean, and areas from west of Scotland sea lochs and NE Atlantic to the Svalbard fjords and continental margin, Mediterranean Sea, to the South Atlantic and Indian Ocean among others. - read more
